REVIEWS:

"Blink is everything you want in a relationship play: funny, painful, affecting."

 The New York Times

"The awkward silences here make you wonder what possibilities Harold Pinter might have found in Wi-Fi monitoring technology."

 The Guardian

"Phil Porter's subversion of the romantic comedy remains a bittersweet and tender thing... While Porter's skewed two-hander flirts with the conventions of romantic comedy, the results are pleasingly idiosyncratic and complex, dealing sensitively with bereavement and loneliness."

 The Stage

"It really is a charmingly sweet and smile-inducing piece of theatre."

 A Younger Theatre

"The strength of Porter's writing lies in its use of detail, its attention to specifics and its use of tonal juxtaposition."

 Exeunt

"Blink feels closer to an indie romcom movie than any other theatrical reference point."

The Skinny

Premiere Production: Blink has its world premiere on 2 August 2012 at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.

  • JONAH (20) is socially awkward after a strict upbringing on a religious commune in the north of England. He is trusting, kind and without malice, approaching the world with endearing naivety. But he also has a tendency towards obsessive behaviour in his relationships and everyday life.
  • SOPHIE (23) was brought up by her father on The Isle of Man. Following his death, and since losing her job, she has become depressed, rarely venturing out of her flat. On first impression she might appear quite serious and guarded but she has a dry sense of humour and a romantic streak.
