Pearl Hart takes the West by its horns in the Arizona Territory of 1869. The play begins in Buffalo Bill's "Famous Wild West Show" where Pearl claims to be the Bandit Girl and answers to the name of Beauty of the West. However, she's not a beauty and is booed off the stage until one audience member persuades her to go on with her story.

She takes the audience on her roller coaster life of gold mining, a stagecoach robbery, a posse chase, a celebrity trial, a prison escape and jail mates that include a crazy Irish girl, a crusty grassroots business woman, Mexican murderesses, a Native American jailed for drinking liquor, and two African American women of the Old West.
