Rolly is a typical fifth-grader whose boring summer vacation turns into a terrific adventure when he stumbles on the past and finds himself in the Age of Charlemagne.

There he encounters a feisty 12-year-old girl who yearns to be a knight and travel to the edge of the world. Her parents, the king and queen, are oddly protective and will not allow the princess to leave the castle walls. Together, the young people plan to run away to Rolly's world, the Age of Computers.

They are stopped by the king and queen, who reveal the secret curse that was laid on the princess at birth: that she will one day prick her finger on a spindle and sleep for a thousand years. At last, Rolly and Princess Aurora are united in the present day, destined for happily ever after.
