This bright, new musical follows the classic story of two infants born at the same time but brought up in vastly different environments. These babies, however, are girls: one a royal princess, the other a penniless waif brought up by a group of paupers.

Each girl longs for a different life. The princess, a rebel, craves excitement and adventure. The other girl, who looks like the princess but has none of her advantages, loves dancing, reading and pretending she lives in a royal household.

After a variety of mishaps, this girl, Penny, ends up alone in the forest at the same time as the princess. The girls meet, exchange clothes, and take each other's places in life. A series of suspenseful and humorous experiences befall them as both learn lessons about their own lives and each other's.

In the end, each girl finds a new direction and charts her own course for living happily ever after.
