An acutely sensitive, moving portrayal of the lives of a group of women which reflects the attitudes and feelings of women today, depicted in a series of settings which flow gently into each other.

Caroline, pregnant by one of her boyfriends, escapes to her seaside birthplace where she is visited by friends. The reaction of these women to each other whilst awaiting the birth is sympathetically told and we become totally involved in the heights and depths of their collective emotions and thoughts.

Premiere Production:

Whale Music was originally written for Eileen Ryan, Tina Perry, Jane Dale, Alison Watt, Alison Head, Audrey Middleton, and Siv Jannsen who performed the play at The Gulbenkian Centre, University of Hull, in June 1980.
The play received its first professional production in April 1981 at the Haymarket, Leicester.
