The comedy is built around the fantastic tale of three suitors who come to prove their prowess in order to win the hand of the emperor's daughter. Fleeing with the suitor of her choice-- the unpretentious student ,Tang -- the princess is pursued by the emperor's army.
She is welcomed back when Tang is able to subdue the fierce dragon of the Khan of Tartary by twisting its tail. Novel, deadpan comedy is provided by a property man and the chorus.
