Jane Eyre is one of literature's most compelling heroines. This one act focuses on her difficult youth as an orphan left with uncaring relatives who eventually send her to Lowood -- a poor boarding school run by Mr. Brocklehurst.

He imposes an overbearing morality while doing nothing about the terrible conditions that take a horrible toll on some but build a strength and deep conviction in young Jane. Her experience is ultimately one of triumph and prepares her for her future as a governess. She forms lifelong friendships, including one with the tragic Helen Burns and the inspiring teacher, Miss Temple.
