The Order of Leibowitz were book-leggers dedicated to the preservation of the fragments of books otherwise destroyed in the nuclear holocaust ages ago when Lucifer descended, after which angry mobs destroyed books and hanged scientists, including Leibowitz.
A thousand years later when barbarism has begun to disappear, there is hope that the documents preserved so faithfully for centuries will finally be put to use for the good of mankind.
