  • BECKY - a pretty little girl with curls down her back, her ruffled pantalettes show under her short skirt
    SID - about ten or twelve
    WALTER POTTER - is a young man, resolute and rather stern of aspect
    INJUN JOE - dark and evil-looking, poorly but not raggedly dressed
    AUNT POLLY - a middle-aged woman with a sharp but kindly visage
    GRACIE MILLER - a shrewish little girl with neglected hair and a shabby dress
    TOM SAWYER - barefoot and one toe is tied up in a white rag
    BEN ROGERS - a boy of about Tom's size, barefoot
    HUCKLEBERRY FINN - a boy of about Tom's size and age but ragged and unkempt. His coat trails behind him almost to the ground, his long trousers are rolled up and fastened by one suspender, his hat is a ruin, and he is barefoot.
    MUFF POTTER - is careless and neglected in dress, his appearance that of the village drunkard. About fifty years old.
    JOE HARPER - about Tom's age. Has a bladder attached to a string in his hand.
    ALFRED TEMPLE - an offensive, citified boy; wears show, a natty hat and a necktie
