First impression is that it is a string of jokes tied together rather loosely. A moment's concentration brings home however the basic fact that Seff weaves a story based on the young man's intense and insistent desire to do the right thing. The laughs come fast, and they are plentiful.

The Patterson Call

The comedy construction of The Whole Ninth Floor is made up of wall-to-wall witticisms. Seff has a good ear and facile pen for manufacturing witty dialog. Also he obviously knows, from first hand experience, Madison Avenue and the talent agency area of show business, for his prototypes and inside trade references are accurate and appropriate.

The Scotch Plain Times

A sparkling new comedy, a tremendously funny play.

The Herald News
  • Casting: 6M, 5F

  • MILDRED HEINDORPH - In her forties and no beauty.
  • GLORIA WEST - Young and curvy.
  • ELLEN WOLSKY - Twenty-six, simple, straightforward. She's not really a girl of the 1960s. Her values go back to a quieter time.
  • LANCE PACKARD - A young twenty-five. Avid, zealous, apt and rich.
  • HENRY OLDSCHAN - Attractive, in his late twenties. Less volatile than Lance, if he has any neuroses, they don't know.
  • GEORGE WILSON - Thirty-one, pleasant looking. No one pulls him, no one pushes; he knows where he's going, but not quite how to get there.
  • CARL MURRAY - Early fifties. Pale, tired, but still trying to stay on the treadmill.
  • ALEC BRUIN - Thirty, attractive, and superficially charming. Underneath there is an ambitious boy who knows he's not terribly talented and charm will have to go a long way.
  • MARIA CUEVE - A Mexican beauty. Early twenties, volatile, emotional. Her acting, in English, is early De Mille. A very small role.
  • FELIX FOWLER - Forty-five and looks younger. Quiet, charming but capable of sudden unexpected bursts of anger.
  • CAROL BEAUMONT - Between forty and forty-five, it's hard to tell. She's vivid and as refreshing as an autumn breeze in August. A Movie Star.
