The 1992 film by Baz Luhrmann has been digitally restored by the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) of Australia in partnership with Spectrum Films. It is this restoration which has been screened at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on 24 May 2022.

The worldwide box-office popularity of Strictly Ballroom makes it one of the most successful Australian films of all time.

ELVIS
This year, Baz Luhrmann's latest biopic movie musical, ELVIS, has premiered at the Festival. Starring Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, ELVIS follows The King's life from his early career and his rise to fame and unprecedented stardom.
Elvis is released in Australia 23 June 2022.

STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL had its Global Premiere on 12 April 2014 at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, followed by seasons at Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne and the Lyric Theatre Queensland Performing Arts Centre in 2015.

The first UK staging premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds in November 2016 directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie. The UK production then opened in Toronto, Canada in April 2017 as part of the Mirvish Theatre Season. The 2021/22 UK tour was rescheduled due to Covid and is due to start in September 2022 and continue into 2023.

Amateur performance rights are available in Australia and New Zealand and features songs from the hit 1992 film including "Love is in the Air", "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" and "Time After Time", as well as new songs from internationally acclaimed artists and composers such as Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect.
