Misty is setting up a display of St. Patrick's Day cards in her shop in a small town in Mississippi when a young man saunters in to buy a Valentine. Since it is the day after Valentine's Day, they are half price. He chooses a card and presents it to the abashed girl his buddies have bet him fifty dollars that he can't walk right in and get Misty, who may or may not be the prettiest girl in Lafayette County, to kiss him. Though he does not win the bet, he may have won the girl -- or at least a date with her.

"A very impressive piece of writing, simple, cleverly-written and lean: a love story containing conflict and resolution."

  • Casting: 1M, 1F
  • Casting Attributes: Strong Role for Leading Man (Star Vehicle)

  • MISTY - 20s; she is "the prettiest girl in Lafayette County." Very charming, very Southern, very sweet. But don't get her mad.
  • JAMES - 20s; the softball star, if there is such a thing. He is rather unrefined but well-intentioned "country boy," who, as he says, has tried to "clean himself up for this occasion." The rough edges still show. The shirt and tie don't match, but James thinks they do. Essentially, he's a nice guy, good-looking, quite a charmer.
